Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport Transfers

Detroit Metro Airport is an airport located in Romulus, in Metro Detroit, Michigan, USA. The airport has two terminals, McNamara Terminal and North Terminal. Which terminal you arrive at or depart from depends on the airline of the flight as the airlines are assigned to a specific terminal. The boarding pass will mention which terminal that is assigned to the flight. Some boarding passes will state McNamara as EM and North as N.

After arriving at the airport, please make sure your luggage is with you when you exit the Baggage Claim area when it’s time to locate your chosen transfer from the airport. Available options of transfer include rental cars, taxis and public transportation buses.

Transfers at Detroit Metro Airport

Rental Cars – The on-airport car rental companies have their offices in the car rental campus located a short ride from the terminals. Free shuttles are provided for the transfer between the terminals and the car rental campus. See all rental car companies at Detroit Metro Airport.

On-Airport Shuttles – Complimentary shuttles run between the two airport terminals with a frequency of approximately every 10-15 minutes. Complimentary shuttles also service the terminals and the Green Lot parking areas.

Pick Up and Drop Off – It is allowed to both pick up and drop off on curbside, but it is not allowed to wait and stay parked on curbside.

It is possible to park in the short-term parking lots of the terminals, McNamara Terminal Parking Garage or The Big Blue Deck Parking, for an hourly fee, and there are also two Cell Phone Lots, close to each of the terminals, where greeters can wait for the traveler to be ready for collection on curbside.

Public Transport Buses – SMART and AirRide provide public transportation buses at the airport.

  • The bus stop at McNamara is located near Door #1 on the Ticketing/Departure Level
  • The bus stop at North is located in the Ground Transportation Center

Follow the signs for Municipal Transportation/Regular Scheduled Bus Service.

SMART provides three various routes – 125, 280 and the fast route 261, the latter also serves certain suburban areas. Routes 125 and 261 stop at both terminals, while 125 only stops at North.

AirRide provides a route between the airport and Ann Arbor and stops at both terminals. More information about buses to and from Detroit Metro Airport.

Greyhound Buses – A Greyhound station is located a short walk from downtown Detroit.

Taxis – Metro Cars and Metro Cab are the two official taxi providers at the airport.

The taxi rank at McNamara is located in the Ground Transportation Center on Level 4. There is signage to follow to find the way.

Ride Shares – Ride Share transfers are requested through the chosen company’s app. The collection location is on Level 4 of the Ground Transportation Center for McNamara and on Level 1 of the Big Blue Deck for North.

Trains – There are no train transfers available to or from the airport, but there are several train stations in and around Detroit, including the Amtrak station located in New Center north of downtown Detroit. Train connections are available to a significant number of cities around the US.
